Time: 330pm
The last three months have been a great experience. I have enjoyed seeing and living in a different culture. It is a fantastic contrast to the United States. I am not opposed to living abroad in the future, but I will always call the USA my home. I am very happy to have been raised in the USA. All of this taken into consideration, I am trying extra hard to really experience China from many angles and get some cool pictures in the process. I will be very happy to be home with my family, friends, and girlfriend and working for a great company.
General Electric
People really light up in China when I tell them I work for GE. My thermodynamics professor enjoys talking
about GE engines and Boeing airplanes. I am happy to be returning to a great job in Cincinnati this summer with a lot of friends with whom I have worked with before. I also look forward to traveling a little bit this summer going to see friends in other cities and weekend trips.
Sanya
I enjoyed the trip to the southern part of China. I made some new friends from Hong Kong and enjoyed the very warm weather. There was plenty of good conversation and good company. In the below post, you can see it is part of China most people do not think about when China is mentioned. It is a vacation destination for Russians and Chinese tourists. We saw a lot of Russian people and restaurants. It was very similar to visiting the Bahamas in some respects like the weather and sun intensity. The prices were lower and it was generally safer. There were resorts that had expensive price tags, but we opted to stay in a cheap hostel / bed and breakfast for about $25 a night per person. The whole trip was a vacation and I spent more than I am used to. It was a fantastic break from the usual. Many of the Chinese characteristics of the culture existed down there.
Xian
I was sitting in my room this morning when I got a call from my roommate at the train station. He asked if I wanted go to go see the Terracotta Warriors. I said sure, so I am going to head on a train tomorrow night up to Xian to check that out this weekend. It was not too much money, about $115 for round trip and sleeping cars both ways. Sadly, this is just about the price it costs to send a small package home my friends said. It is also more than a suit, which makes it very tempting to not spending the money. It seems like the right choice though, get a couple of cool photos and maybe see some Pandas or go hiking.
